COL John (Jay) Etzenbach
was raised in Peru, Illinois. He graduated from Illinois Valley
Community College and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana
prior to being accepted to dental school. He graduated with a D.D.S.
degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1982.
He immediately began his residency in Periodontics and graduated
with a Certificate in Periodontics in 1984. Upon graduation from his
postgraduate training, COL Etzenbach opened a private practice in
Periodontics in his hometown. While in private practice, he also
earned an MBA from Lewis University in 1995.
After eleven years in
private practice, COL Etzenbach was commissioned an officer in the
US Army Dental Corps. Following the Officer Basic Course, COL
Etzenbach was assigned as Chief of Periodontics at Vogelweh Dental
Clinic in Kaiserslautern, Germany. While there, he started the
periodontal track for the AEGD-1 residency program. During that
time, he served as the ERDC Conference Coordinator and organized the
Garmisch and Sonthofen Dental Conferences for the Europe Regional
Dental Command. After 5 years in Vogelweh, he was reassigned as
Chief of Periodontics at Tripler Army Medical Center. Following one
year at TAMC, he was named OIC of the Schofield Barracks Dental
Clinic. While in Hawaii, COL Etzenbach served as a mentor for the
AEGD-1 program and transitioned the program to an AGD-2
Comprehensive Dentistry Residency. Following his assignment in
Hawaii, he was reassigned as OIC of Benjamin Franklin Village Dental
Clinic in Mannheim, Germany.
COL Etzenbach received
Board Certification in Periodontology and is a Diplomate in the
American Board of Periodontology. He has been awarded the
prestigious “A” Designator from The Surgeon General and is a member
of the Order of Military Medical Merit (Army Medical Department). He
is also a Fellow in the International College of Dentists.
COL Etzenbach is a
graduate of the Command and General Staff Officers’ Course and
graduated from the US Army War College with a Masters Degree in
Military Science in July 2006.
COL Etzenbach was most
recently Commander of the US Army Dental Activity, Bavaria.
